In Korea, anyone who has worked continuously for at least one year, averaging 15 hours or more per week, is entitled to severance pay — including part-timers and foreign workers.
How it works
- Average daily wage = (pay for last 3 months + annual bonus × 3/12 + leave allowance × 3/12) ÷ days in those 3 months
- Severance = average daily wage × 30 × (days employed ÷ 365)
- The retirement date is the day after your last working day.
FAQ
Do foreign workers (E-9) get severance?
Yes. E-9 workers usually receive it through departure-guarantee insurance (출국만기보험), with any shortfall paid by the employer.
